Betty McCollum, a long-serving member of the U.S. Congress representing Minnesota’s 4th District since 2001, has recently expressed her views on several pressing issues via social media. The congresswoman, who previously served in the Minnesota House of Representatives from 1993 to 2001 and holds a BA from St. Catherine University, took to Twitter to address topics ranging from reproductive healthcare for servicewomen to political accountability.

On June 12, 2025, McCollum tweeted “The federal government has absolutely no business regulating the reproductive healthcare decisions of American servicewomen. We trust our servicewomen to protect and serve our country — we should trust them to make decisions about their own bodies.” This statement highlights her stance against federal interference in personal healthcare choices for military personnel.

Later that day, at 19:49 UTC, she criticized actions taken by the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) agents in another tweet: “It is appalling to see DHS agents handcuff and wrestle Senator Padilla to the ground for asking a question of Secretary Noem. This blatant abuse of power by the Trump Administration must be condemned by Republicans and Democrats alike. Trump wants Americans to be silent.” McCollum condemned what she perceives as an overreach of authority and called for bipartisan condemnation.

The following day, on June 13, McCollum addressed legislative actions concerning cuts proposed by Elon Musk: “Republicans voted to try to legalize Elon Musk’s illegal and unconstitutional cuts to services Americans rely on — after the fact. Republicans are proving they’ll rubber stamp whatever Trump asks them to — no matter how destructive it is to our communities.” Her remarks criticize Republican lawmakers for supporting measures that she believes undermine essential services.
