Rep. Betty McCollum, who has been serving in the U.S. Congress representing Minnesota’s 4th district since 2001, shared her views on several pressing issues through a series of tweets. McCollum, a Minneapolis native and graduate of St. Catherine University, expressed her opinions on topics ranging from international relations to education policy.

On February 13, 2025, Rep. McCollum tweeted her agreement with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy regarding Ukraine’s sovereignty and the necessity for its involvement in any peace negotiations. She stated: “I completely agree with @ZelenskyyUa: Nothing about Ukraine, without Ukraine.” She emphasized that “Ukraine is not the aggressor” and called attention to the Russian invasion that resulted in numerous casualties among Ukrainians.

The following day, February 14, 2025, McCollum addressed an educational policy issue involving former President Donald Trump. She claimed: “President Trump illegally canceled scholarships for 185 students @UofStThomasMN training to be special education teachers because he deems their studies ‘DEI.'” She criticized this action as obstructive to both the students’ career paths and the needs of children requiring special education services.

On February 15, 2025, Rep. McCollum reiterated her commitment to educational equity in a tweet reflecting on longstanding U.S. educational commitments: “Since 1975, the U.S. has committed to ensuring that every student receives a quality education, regardless of their abilities.” She vowed continued support for initiatives aimed at providing all children with opportunities to achieve their full potential.
