Rep. Betty McCollum, who represents Minnesota’s 4th district in the U.S. Congress, addressed a range of national and local issues in a series of posts on her official Twitter account between February 12 and 13, 2026.
On February 12, McCollum criticized the administration’s trade policies with Canada, stating: “The President’s chaotic tariffs have driven up costs for families, small businesses, and farmers, and have ruined our relationship with Canada. Yesterday, I voted to regain Congress’s tariff authority and reject Trump’s nonsense tariffs against Canada, our closest ally.”
Later that day, she turned her attention to environmental policy and climate change: “Climate change is real. That does not change because Trump and his cabinet of billionaires think their unsubstantiated opinions, which conveniently benefit oil executives, are more valid than decades of scientific research. Our children and grandchildren deserve better.”
On February 13, McCollum congratulated Minnesota athletes competing at the Milano-Cortina Games: “Congratulations to Aileen Geving and Cory Thiesse of Duluth, Tabitha Peterson Lovick and Tara Peterson of Eagan, and University of Minnesota alumna Tayler Anderson-Heide on defeating Canada in women’s curling! Minnesotans continue to excel at the Milano-Cortina Games. “
McCollum has represented Minnesota’s 4th District since 2001 after succeeding Bruce Vento. She previously served in the Minnesota House of Representatives from 1993 to 2001. Born in Minneapolis in 1954 and currently residing in Saint Paul, McCollum earned her bachelor’s degree from St. Catherine University in 1987.
