Rep. Betty McCollum, a long-serving member of the U.S. Congress representing Minnesota’s 4th district, recently addressed several pressing issues via social media. Her comments focused on the security situation in Somalia, funding cuts to a job training program, and engagement with her constituents through a newsletter.

On June 3, 2025, Rep. McCollum highlighted concerns from her constituents regarding the security situation in Somalia. She stated that “Minnesota is home to 82,436 Somali Americans, and I’ve been hearing from my constituents who are concerned about the deteriorating security situation in Somalia.” She emphasized that withdrawing from Somalia could empower terrorists in the region.

Later that day, she criticized cuts to a job training program by former President Donald Trump. In her tweet at 21:06 UTC, she noted that “Hubert H. Humphrey Job Corps has a 44 year track record building job skills & stability for young adults & a reliable workforce for Minnesota employers.” She argued that Trump’s reductions would harm communities while benefiting billionaires through tax cuts.

On June 4, McCollum encouraged constituents to stay informed about her work by subscribing to her weekly newsletter. At 18:05 UTC, she tweeted “The best way to keep up with my work is to subscribe to my weekly newsletter.”

Betty McCollum has represented Minnesota’s 4th District since 2001 after succeeding Bruce Vento. Born in Minneapolis in 1954 and currently residing in Saint Paul, she holds a BA from St. Catherine University.
