Rep. Betty McCollum, currently serving in the U.S. Congress representing Minnesota’s 4th district, has recently shared a series of tweets addressing national security concerns, celebrating local businesses, and commenting on environmental legislation. McCollum has been a member of Congress since 2001 and previously served in the Minnesota House of Representatives.

On February 6, 2025, Rep. McCollum emphasized the importance of national security by stating “National security starts with people.” She joined three U.S. Senators in urging the Secretary of Defense to reconsider the White House’s Deferred Resignation letter, which she believes significantly undermines national security.

On February 8, 2025, she celebrated a local business milestone by tweeting “Happy first anniversary to Highland Popcorn!” McCollum congratulated the company for its innovative popcorn products and its role in providing employment opportunities for individuals with disabilities while fostering community connections.

Later that day, Rep. McCollum criticized legislative actions affecting natural resources. She expressed concern over Rep. Stauber’s bill, asserting that it prioritizes corporate profits over environmental preservation. In her words: “Rep. Stauber’s bill puts the profits of a Chilean mining conglomerate over the preservation of one of our nation’s most precious natural resources: the crystal-clear freshwater of the Boundary Waters Canoe Area.”
