U.S. Representative Betty McCollum, who has represented Minnesota’s 4th district in Congress since 2001, posted a series of statements on social media between August 12 and August 14, 2025. Her posts addressed economic policy, Social Security, and local political developments.

On August 12, McCollum criticized former President Donald Trump’s economic record. She wrote: “Donald Trump promised to lower costs and stop inflation, but his policies are costing us more – unless you’re a billionaire. He’s stripped away health care for millions to give away massive tax breaks for billionaires and his reckless tariffs are driving up prices.”

Two days later, on August 14, she marked the anniversary of Social Security while warning about potential threats to the program. In her words: “Thanks to FDR and the New Deal Democrats, we’re celebrating 90 years of Social Security providing economic security for Americans with disabilities, seniors, and survivors. Today, Social Security faces its biggest threat ever — from Republicans seeking to privatize it.”

Later that same day, McCollum congratulated a local official on their election victory: “Congratulations to Saint Paul City Councilmember-elect Molly Coleman on winning the special election in Ward 4! I look forward to working together on behalf of Saint Paul residents.”

McCollum has been an active figure in Minnesota politics for decades. She previously served in the Minnesota House of Representatives from 1993 until her election to Congress in 2001. Born in Minneapolis in 1954 and currently residing in Saint Paul, McCollum is an alumna of St. Catherine University.
