Rep. Betty McCollum, a longstanding member of the U.S. Congress representing Minnesota’s 4th district since 2001, has recently shared her views and updates on various issues through social media posts.

On May 11, 2025, Rep. McCollum reported a significant traffic disruption in Saint Paul due to an unexpected sinkhole. She advised residents and visitors to plan their routes accordingly: “An unexpected sinkhole has caused major traffic disruptions on West 7th between Grand Ave and Kellogg Blvd. Make sure to plan ahead if you intend to visit the area!”

The following day, May 12, she expressed concern over potential voting restrictions affecting women in Minnesota. She referenced past voter decisions while criticizing current political efforts: “Minnesota voters rejected a constitutional amendment limiting voting rights in 2012, but if Donald Trump and House Republicans get their way, nearly 1 million Minnesota women would face extra burdens to register to vote simply because they changed their name after marriage.”

On May 13, Rep. McCollum addressed the issue of Temporary Protected Status (TPS) for Afghan allies who supported American forces during the Afghanistan war. She criticized former President Trump’s decision regarding TPS: “Our Afghan allies risked everything, including their own lives and the safety of their families, to keep American troops and diplomats out of harm’s way during the war in Afghanistan. Trump’s decision to end TPS for them is an appalling betrayal of their service to our nation.”

Rep. McCollum has been serving in Congress since succeeding Bruce Vento in 2001 and previously served in the Minnesota House of Representatives from 1993 until her congressional election.
