Davis earns silver as St. Thomas competes on day three of Summit League meet

The University of St. Thomas swim and dive teams marked the third day of the Summit League Championships in Iowa City with notable performances, including a silver medal win by sophomore Jordyn Davis in the 100 backstroke. Both the men’s and women’s teams ended Friday in fifth place overall.

Davis, who had previously helped secure a bronze medal in the 200 medley relay, achieved her first individual podium finish as a Tommie. She completed the 100 backstroke in 54.44 seconds to earn second place and All-Conference honors. Davis also finished eighth in the 100 butterfly.

Other top performances for the women included Emily Wooden qualifying for the “B” finals in the 100 butterfly with a season-best time of 57.55 seconds before finishing 14th in finals. Tessa Jones was seventh in the 400 IM after posting a season-best time of 4:29.95.

In the 200 freestyle, Mary Selden led St. Thomas with a tenth-place finish at 1:51.26, followed by Sophia Hayes (12th) and Jin-Jae Robinson (16th). Brooke Gothard won the “B” final of the 100 breaststroke with a time of 1:03.80, ranking her third all-time for St. Thomas in that event; Izabelle Schwartz placed 14th.

Ellie Undem reached the “A” final of the 100 backstroke and finished eighth, while she joined Gothard, Davis, and Amber Hess to place fifth in the 400 medley relay with their best time this season at 3:47.57.

On the men’s side, Charlie Folks broke his own program record during prelims of the 400 IM with a personal best of 3:58.55 before placing eighth in finals at 4:00.71.

Philip Jensen qualified for “A” finals in both butterfly and backstroke events, taking fifth place in the 100 fly (48.36) and seventh in the 100 backstroke.

John Trosper and Nicholas Salido competed in Friday’s “B” final for the men’s 100 fly, finishing eleventh and sixteenth respectively.

Sam Sacor recorded his season-best time during prelims for the men’s 400 IM (4:04.96), ultimately placing sixteenth.

Tommy Seiler was fifteenth in men’s 200 freestyle at Friday’s finals.

Four swimmers—Ian Leonard, Jensen Richard, Sean Bannon, and Joseph Sandhoefner—qualified for “B” finals in men’s breaststroke; Leonard finished highest among them at tenth place (55.41).

Lucas Becker competed in Friday’s “A” final for men’s backstroke and finished eighth.

Divers Austin Kantor and Benjamin Mattera reached finals on Friday as well, ending up fourteenth and sixteenth respectively on their boards.

The Summit League Swim and Dive Championships will conclude Saturday with preliminary events starting at 10:00 a.m.
