U.S. Representative Betty McCollum, who represents Minnesota’s 4th district in Congress, addressed several national issues in a series of posts on September 3, 2025.

On the evening of September 3, McCollum noted the U.S. House’s tribute to victims of a recent shooting: “The U.S. House observed a moment of silence last night to honor the Annunciation shooting victims, including Fletcher Merkel and Harper Moyski, who were tragically killed. Thoughts and prayers are not enough. Our collective grief must become collective action to end gun violence.” (posted at 17:25 UTC).

Later that day, she announced her support for a legislative effort regarding public access to government records: “I just signed onto @RepThomasMassie’s discharge petition to force a vote on binding legislation to release the Epstein files. President Trump promised answers, but his administration refuses to deliver the truth to the American people. It’s time for Congress to step up.” (posted at 20:22 UTC).

In another post at 21:18 UTC, McCollum criticized pending energy legislation being debated in the House: “Right now, the U.S. House is debating Republicans’ legislation that would raise your energy bill, slash renewable energy investments, and defund energy assistance programs for low-income Minnesotans. Read my op-ed detailing how this bill harms our state https://t.co/AwhT9T0T7E”.

Betty McCollum has represented Minnesota’s 4th district since replacing Bruce Vento in 2001 and previously served in the Minnesota House of Representatives from 1993 to 2001. She was born in Minneapolis in 1954 and resides in Saint Paul. McCollum graduated from St. Catherine University with a Bachelor of Arts degree in 1987.
